In Romania, we find ourselves in a dynamic world; we live on fast forward speed, always searching for better/faster ways to get the work done, to be more efficient thus automate and computerize are natural directions for all of us.
It is only natural that, in this context we tend to adjust the tools we are working with, to present reality.
Human resources with all its processes are now more cloud and online based more than ever!
But, there are still some tools we are struggling to adapt to the online era. Vacation vouchers and meal tickets are Romanian most recent projects in the section of adapting benefits in kind to online approach.
How long it will take?
For 6 months, Romanian companies have all regulations available for granting electronically meal tickets to their employees. Instead of receiving paper printed tickets, the employees can receive an amount of money equal to meal tickets value, uploaded on a dedicated/ nominal card. But do they?
Unfortunately this project is at this point not as successful as the Romanian Authorities were expecting.
In rural environment, even if the companies would like to implement electronically meal tickets, the employees are resistant to change. The reaction is the immediate effect of the context this benefit in kind is now in Romania.
Meal tickets as benefits in kind are much appreciated mostly in production and retail environment, as the wages there are quite low, and employees can still be motivated by meal tickets. However, the employees within this sector are not so eager to atomize and computerize their way of living and generally have a resistant to change approach.
Moreover, a significant part of these employees are living in the country side or in small towns where the infrastructure is not appropriate for them to be able to use meal tickets in electronic format as easy as they are using paper printed ones. Thus they choose to use paper printed meal tickets still!
Here, the meal tickets are valued by companies and employees, but the use of electronically format is complicated, thus the implementation is at this moment without success.
On the other hand, within big cities in industries like services providers, IT, multinational consultancy, advisory, outsourcing corporations, shared service centers meal tickets as benefit in kind are almost absent, as they are not considered to be motivating for the employees any more.
The benefits in kind are adapted to employees needs. Medical insurance, wellness and spa subscriptions together with fruits or massage delivered at the office, dance/football/tennis or personal development classes are found to be appreciated by the employees detrimental to meal tickets.
In the urban environment the employees are open to automation the processes and their way of living, so the electronically meal tickets could be successfully implemented, however the market does not identify them as a need.
Nevertheless, the process of adapting human resources tools, processes, benefits in kind, recruiting processes using online environment, benefits platforms, loyalty of employees’ platforms is a strong trend in Romania.
