The Polish Parliament has adopted an act based on which excise duty for hybrid cars will be decreased. If the Polish President signs the act. the excise duty fill amount to:
- 1,55% (currently 3,1%) for hybrid cars with engine up to 2000 cm3;
- 9,3% (currently 18,6%) for hybrid cars with engine from 2000 cm3 to 3500 cm3;
As for now, it is difficult to predict if car retailers will share the saving with customers, since the proposed amendments are not referring to this issue. The amount of saving may vary from PLN 1k (e.g. for Toyota Yaris) to PLN 40k (e.g. for hybrid Porsche Panamera SE).
Surely this is a positive information for major car retailers such as Toyota, who currently owns 80% of the Polish hybrid market. In 2020 an increase in the sale of flag hybrid RAV4 and Lexus NX (both currently under 18,6% excise) shall be expected.
