We would like to inform you that on 27 March 2020 an amendment to the Social Insurance Act due to COVID-19 in Slovakia, introducing so-called “quarantine sickness benefits”, became effective.
These are sickness benefits provided to persons under isolation or quarantine during the crisis situation and for which the reason for payment arose on the effective date of the said amendment, i.e. at the earliest on 27 March 2020.
Please note that in the case of incapacity for work prior to the effective date of the above amendment, the rules in force until 26 March 2020 should be followed. In this context, many uncertainties arose as to how to deal with incapacity for work due to quarantine or isolation, which occurred on 27 March 2020. If, for instance, an employee is in self-quarantine as they returned from abroad on 26 March 2020, for the first day they are entitled to income compensation for temporary incapacity for work from the employer, and starting from 27 March 2020 they are entitled to sickness benefits from the Social Insurance Agency.
According to the information available to us, this should be the last published opinion by the Social Insurance Agency. We will inform you later about other changes, if any.
